Inis Oírr, Aran Islands, County Galway

Inis Oírr

A scenic journey that starts on one of Ireland’s beautiful beaches that is now home to a wild dolphin! Enjoy the waves lapping along the shore as you pass an Irish currach, a traditional boat made from wooden frame with canvas stretched across its frame, towards Teampall Chaomháin. Local guide Cathleen Ní Chonghaile talks about the history of the island and the traditions associated with the patron saint of Inis Oírr, Saint Caomhán. The walk then goes inland towards Caisleán Uí Bhriain, built in the 14th Century from an earlier Iron Age stone fort, Dún Formna.
