Poulanaas and the Spinc, Glendalough, County Wicklow
The Valley of Glendalough, County Wicklow • 49m
This trail starts at Poulanaas waterfall and quickly takes you away from the lakes and rivers, delving deep into coniferous forests. The forest path strikes steeply uphill along 600 wooden steps placed there by the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
Your efforts are rewarded, after a while, by breaking out onto open mountain summit at the top. Here, the views are wonderful, looking out over the valley and down below onto the Lower Lake and Monastic City. The air is fresh up here and Michael recounts some poetry and recalls the reason people visit places like this. After a short break continues along the Spinc towards one of the best views in the valley.
