Hello, my name is Jim Hurley, and I'm very fortunate and greatly privileged to live, with my wife Rose, here on the wonderful South Wexford Coast, a natural heritage coastline. The coastal strip stretches from Hook Head Lighthouse behind me, the oldest operating lighthouse in the world to Carnsore Point, the extreme southeastern cornerstone of the island of Ireland.
Even though the coastline here is only 40 kilometers long it supports eight sites, each of which is rated to be of international importance for natural heritage. These sites are Hook Head Bannow Bay, Kerragh Islands, Ballyteige Burrow, Saltee Islands, Tacumshin Lake, Lady’s Island Lake, and Carnsore Point.
By profession, I am a retired schoolteacher and I get tremendous pleasure and inspiration from walking on the South Wexford Coast and from interacting with the natural world. There are some wonderful walks here and I hope you enjoy them.
I'm going on one of the walks now and I leave you to enjoy the view of Hook Head Lighthouse.
